APA backs Office*

APA has today announced its support for a major new show for PAs and office professionals.

Diversified Business Communications UK announced that they are launching the new event, Office*, after extensive consultation with leading players in the industry, including associations, exhibitors and leading training providers. An advisory panel concluded that there was a big gap for an event like this.

Carsten Holm, MD of DBC UK, was delighted with the response. "We already have a strong reputation as quality event organisers in this sector from our work with the National Executive PA conference. All of the companies we have spoken to have welcomed this important launch and we look forward to working with everyone to create a fantastic event which meets the full range of needs of PAs, Executive Assistants and office administrators.

Office* will take place at Earls Court in 21-22 September 2010.

APA Director General, Gareth Osborne, said, “APA gave much thought to whether we should be backing another ‘national event’ in the current financial climate but in Diversified saw an event organiser with a true ambition to deliver something different and more professional (than other events that have gone before them). I believe they share our desire to have PAs recognised as the influential business managers they really are. Office* could make a real difference."

Hi Gareth,

Does this replace Creme? It would be great if we had something better and more relevant. A few less events organisers and recruitment firms would be a start.

Hi Gareth

Can I ask the same question as Aimee please?

Hi Tracy,

You have caught me out here! I called Aimee and gave her a verbal reply which wasn't very useful for the rest of the readers. Here goes:

Creme is defintely cancelled and to all intents and purposes is dead and unlikely to be revived - unless the sponsors have other ideas that are, as yet, undisclosed.

The orgaisers of Office* called me about 3 months ago and outlined a plan to create something much more relevant (and guaranteed not to attract 'bag-fillers' and 'freebie-hunters'). They wish to retain some of the frienlier attributes of earlier shows but focus on best practice, education and genuine value from attendance. I have listened to the MD and some of the core staff and they are extremely passionate about what they are doing.

APA blog readers will know I was extremely sceptical about Creme and whether it offered true value to attendees or exhibitors. I am happy to associate APA with Office* (as much as you can be with anything new) simply because they have a desire to succeed. They have listened to suggestions and seem to be taking note. Only time will tell if they can deliver but I thik they are brave for trying and their determination will certainly guarantee that it will be no worse than others before them.

I think anything new has to be an improvement! I went to Creme twice and thought it was a waste of time. We create and host conferences and I know how much work has to be put into getting a good quality audience to attend; something Creme didn't achieve during my visits.

I did meet APA though.
